Title: Airbnb Experiences Surge in Bookings for 2024 Paris Olympics, Indian Travellers Lead the Way
With the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games just around the corner, Airbnb has reported a significant increase in travel bookings worldwide, indicating a heightened global interest in the event. Travellers from over 160 countries and regions have already secured their stays with Airbnb during the sporting extravaganza.
According to Airbnb, as of March 31, the number of nights booked during the dates of the Olympics has skyrocketed by over 400% compared to the same period last year in the Paris region. This surge in bookings has made Paris the top-searched city on the platform, with a nearly 40% increase in active listings, ensuring ample availability for guests.
Interestingly, Asian countries are leading the pack in terms of growth in bookings, with India, Mainland China, Hong Kong (SAR), and Japan witnessing the highest increase in travellers. India alone has seen a 30% surge in bookings for stays in and around Paris during the Games.
Beyond Paris, Indian travellers are also exploring other vibrant locations such as Nice, Aubervilliers, Colombes, and Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine. These areas, along with key Olympic venues like Colombes and Châteauroux, are experiencing significant interest, showcasing lesser-known areas and historic cities throughout France.
Amanpreet Bajaj, Airbnb’s General Manager for India, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, expressed excitement about the trend among Indian travellers planning trips around iconic sporting events like the Olympics. He highlighted that while Paris remains a top destination, travellers are also venturing beyond traditional tourist spots to explore cities like Saint-Denis and Bordeaux to catch their favorite sports.
Stays on Airbnb during the Summer Olympic Games in Paris 2024 are expected to generate significant economic impact, with a typical host in the Paris region estimated to earn €2,000 (over $2,170 USD). The total economic impact is projected to be almost 1 billion euros (over 1 billion USD), supporting nearly 7,300 full-time equivalent jobs in the country.
Overall, the surge in bookings for the 2024 Paris Olympics reflects a growing appetite among Indian travellers for unique global experiences, showcasing their interest in exploring new destinations and immersing themselves in the excitement of major sporting events.
