Doctor Falls Victim to Online Task Scam, Loses Rs 17.27 Lakh
A doctor in Kharghar recently fell prey to an online task scam, losing a staggering Rs 17.27 lakh to fraudsters. The scam initially appeared legitimate, with the doctor receiving payments and commissions for completing property reviews. Encouraged by her initial earnings, she continued engaging in the tasks provided by the scammers.
The situation quickly escalated when the fraudsters demanded Rs 11,000 from her to maintain access to the platform. To further build her confidence, they added her to a Telegram group filled with supposedly successful participants who shared positive experiences and earnings. This manipulation led the doctor to make multiple payments, eventually totaling up to Rs 17.27 lakh.
When she attempted to withdraw her earnings, she was asked to pay a 30% commission on the total amount. Sensing foul play, she tried to withdraw her funds but was unsuccessful. Subsequently, she filed an FIR with the Kharghar police station, who are now investigating the case to apprehend the culprits responsible for this significant financial fraud.
